It is important to understand that the Civil Rights Movement started way before the 1960's. After the end of the Civl War, the United States entered a time of "Reconstruction." During this time, the south created what were known as Jim Crow Laws. The Jim Crow south segregated African Americans from the rest of society. Near the approach of the mid 1900's, many people dedicated their lives to gain equality for ALL peoples. This trailfire discusses important people and events that either led up to, or shaped the Civil Rights movement. While there are numerous events and people that are necessarily the topics of these websites, names and events can be found by searching the sites. In conclusion, the Civil Rights Movement is a subject that has numerous important aspects. These sites are a good start to understanding what the Civil Rights Movement was all about.
