Just by looking at the title, this seems like a great idea to use in a classroom. By using a topic that students are intrested in, students will be more likely to enjoy the exercises that go with it.  This sounds like it could be a good topic for a mini lesson possibly.

Many students do know about Harry Potter and have read most if not all of the books.  I do wonder however, about the students who have not read Harry Potter.  Those students are likely not going to be very engaged.

The first two "ingredients" seem like they would work well in a mini-lesson.  Students can experience something through a visual or aural activity and write about it.  I think these ideas could fit into the idea of a writing workshop because they build motivation for the students. Through generating their own descriptive words or experiencing how other authors use descriptive words in their writing, students can be motivated to use more descriptive words in their own writing.

These last few "ingredients" seem to stray from the idea of a writing workshop, at least according to Calkins and Graves. They are very focused on the writing process. The students are given a topic and they follow certain steps to get their final product.

At first I thought this could be a great lesson plan to use in a classroom.  On the surface the idea seems like a great way to get students involved in the writing process.  The topic is one that most students will at least have heard about and many students will have read the books.  This lesson plan could work very well in a classroom.  It is a lot more exciting than many of the writing topics I ever got in school.  The problem is that it is not a writing workshop lesson.  This artifact is one I probably will not use in a classroom, but it does show an interesting way to use the writing process in a classroom that engages students.
