This is a great concept and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this article in Business 2.0. Its a great example of how a company and a dinosaur like industry can be reinvented with new models and technologies. See also My trail Airline Reactions to recent Terror

The difficult thing about a business model turned upside down is that it makes people uncomfortable. Snakes on a Plane marks my uncomfort zone. I didn't get caught up in the web hype. I even question how much hype there really was since I didn't hear about the web hype until a week before the movie was supposed to come out. I watch the trailer commercials and look to my wife and think, that's got to be the dumbest thing I've ever seen. From Samuel Jackson's perception, I can relate to his artistic desire to do the work. Its one thing to act in something that becomes a joke on the world. From the perspective of someone that might shell out $10 / per person to see it at the theatre? Jokes on the theatre, I'm not going. Now I admit I didn't succumb to the Rocky Horror picture show phenom and I guess my karma will miss out on this too if it gets that big. You win some and you lose some. Whatever it is, if its a true business model turned upside down then they have guts, but if this is just a Hollywood method for trying to save a doomed movie, then its just business 101 straight out of a very old text book.

So blockbuster is claiming that Netflix has a monopoly over the online DVD rental business? Blockbuster is claiming Netflix . . . When does the Microsoft lawsuit against Apple's monopoly over iTunes commence? 2007?

McDonalds may be slow, but they do exhibit signs of listening and reacting. Their history may be deep fried, but as their growth slows they may start to listen to the growing consumer base demanding a better world.

My heart is warmed by Branson and Gates and even Buffet giving so many billions of dollars to philanthropic causes, but I can't help thinking that there must be some catch somewhere, that theyse multi-billionaires are getting something else in return besides a warm fuzzy in their own hearts. I think what they are doing is fantastic, but I'm cynical at the same time. A tiger doesn't change its stripes!

This is a great example of how a company can use a new technology to optimum advantage.
