Apple claims ownership of the word Pod, despite its presence in the dictionary and continued usage in English speaking countries for hundreds of years. Apple of course stands on a high moral ground having used the name Apple Computer despite 2 settlements with The Beatles Apple Corp over the use of the 'Apple' name in conjunction with Business and most recently the music business.
