The Food and Wine magazine agrees with my list of the world's best in food markets; only, their list is five times as long. See my choices. The BE, as its called fondly by locals, or the be boulange'picier, is a bakery, a grocery, and a food market all rolled into one. A great chef and a great baker came together to make BE possible; Alain Ducasse and Eric Kayser, the best names in France in the area of food, have made this a world renowned name. Apart from the divine fare in breads, soups, pastries, and you name it...they have one thing that makes their reputation, a smple basket...they even offer olive oil samples. Check BE out when you are in Paris.

See two views of the same market, in the list of the best 25 food markets in the world. One is on a holiday, and the other a typical busy working day. The best chefs of Barcelone make it a point to be here at sunrise to get the best in seafood, fruits and begetables and the quality of these account for half their fame. There is even a cooking school here.

Ka De We is not a shop it is a legend, that began in 1907, even before the Berlin wall divided Germany's geography. For Berliners and the rest of the world as well, this is synonymous of shopping. Seven floors of 35000 types of food products from all over the world. The best bet is the Food Hall on the sixth floor, and I made a personal choice at the "Winter Garten" , a self-service joint there. "Goose" was a speciality that i loved, a German christmas delicacy, i understand. I almost forgot, chocolates....all shapes, sizes and prices. And i see some future for me in the diabetic chocolate...

The best way to know a country is find its grass roots, at its market place. When the market is a deep rooted and as world famous as this, there should be something in it. This is what I went to find out in Pisac in Peru. The normally untouristy roads were flowing with tourists of all sizes and races and languages. This is also on the Food and Wine list and small wonder! Haggle away to your best of best and unbelievable bargains...Get anything and everything from here! Come to Peru just for this!
