I work on finding certificate of deposit rates from bank sites. High yield savings accounts don't yield what they used to, they're only slightly better than rates you'd find from a checking account.

A certificate of deposit is a bank account that is set for an agreed upon term for an agreed upon amount of money for an agreed upon interest rate. For example a bank can offer a 3% APY 1 year CD rate for a minimum of $1,000. If you open an account for $1,000 you will yield 3% over the course of the year. Unlike other bank accounts you can't withdraw or deposit money into this account.
