People generally think that a nose gets stuffy due to too thick mucus. It’s not true. A congested nose happens when the membranes lining the nose become swollen from inflamed blood vessels. This can occur due to cold, sinus infections, flu, or allergies.

Nasal congestion in infants can cause serious problems than in adults. Nasal congestion in small children could interfere with nursing and may cause severe respiratory discomfort. It could even be fatal. A stuffy nose can even interfere with the hearing and speech development of a child.

A stuffy nose can also be relieved without using any medicines at all. The following would definitely help: using gentle nasal sprays, drinking hot fluids like tea and chicken broth, and increasing the humidity in the air with vaporizers or humidifiers. They do not have harmful side effects.
