Compared to the original 7 wonders the new list, for the most part, seems to pale in comparison. Perhaps it is just because of our familiarity with some of them, versus our perception of the wonderment of the ruined ancient wonders. However, somehow it strikes me that there may be more of a political reason behind choosing, for example, the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower as "wonders".
