Well.. there seems to be more information on how to join the force specific to UK.. I'm going to keep hunting.
I now know that you need no formal qualifications to join the police service. To assess your ability, you will have to take literacy and numeracy ability tests during the recruitment process. You can also look at the websites for your local force which will give info relevant to them

The moment of transformation… when you slip into the uniform… put on the badge… and join our elite ranks, you’ll feel it. This is the moment you truly become a part of the dedication, the pride, and the legacy that makes the United States Capitol Police a force like no other.

The desire to make a difference in the lives of many will take care of the rest. Let's head to the police's website itself..

And there is.. covering everything from aptitude tests to physical ability. It takes more than just raw talent, dignity, and loyalty to protect the U.S. Capitol -- it takes the right education and training. Our academy equips our officers with the skills necessary to meet the challenges of their daily assignments as well as to advance in their careers

This is for the Yorkshire police force...not right here in the states, but I found it interesting to compare the requirements...
Looks like all the policemen over the globe are of the same brood...Anyone know the rules in the recruitment of cops in places where genetics does not allow them to be tall?

If you are interested in local police in your town or municipality, check their websites or give them a call to see what qualifications you need to work as a police officer for your town or city. Ask them how many officers they have hired lately and how they see their needs in the future. Education requirements differ from city to city. Some will require you to have a policing course completed. Some hire you first and send you to a police college. As well, many colleges and universities offer preparatory courses to help you get into policing. Ask the force what they are looking for as this could save you a lot of time and money.
