About this trail:
Harry Wong's site provides some printable resources. However, they are very "cutesy" and low quality. Unfortunately, in education, the salesmen rule and pretty, simplel, and easy trumps thoughtful, effective, and skillful at every venue. Click forward arrow on the Trailfire memo to vist a better site for your needs.

Most of these materials are simplistic and questionable value. These types of activities are attractive to teachers primarily because they are simple. Be VERY SELECTIVE. (There are some helpful things here I'm sure, but I didn't find them.)
The next site is better, but sill needs careful consideration.

Again, sift through the materials. There are some nice materials on the senses for second grade. Also try the Tommy Tales Adventure and printable books. If you think about it a minute, you can delete the text in these eight page books (two sheets of paper printed on both sides) and have the children write their own using the pictures as guides. Then, you probably will figure out that you can delete the pictures and words, paste in your own pictures, and provide a nice writing prompt.
The lesson here is that these materials are starting places, not destinations.
What to view another site?

I've used this site for several years instead of doing open searches. Again, discretion is needed but this is certainly a great place to start. You can experiment with these sites easily. Just book mark this page and return to it when time is available. If you loose the bookmark, just visit Yahoo.com and type "education" into the search engine. Then select the yahoo pages from the entries provided (it is usually the first on listed after the ads).
For HIGH QUALITY materials, we are now jumping to Stanford University and some "how to learn" pages...

To the left you will see "learning skills" and below that a host of study pages that can be printed and given to students. While they are designed for college freshmen, they apply to everyone from middle school onward and with gifted children from about third grade.
Note the section entitled the Cornell Method for taking notes. As an undergraduate a hundred years ago or so, I took notes in a very similar fashion although I had never heard of the Cornell Method (if it even existed then).
The first five are "must gives" to any student in an AP or advanced class in secondary school. I probably will add them to our materials!
And now for something entirely different...

We are now in Hawaii, that is, Florida with bumps. Seriously, my daughter did a semester's study in her doctoral program atthe University of Hawaii and was very impressed with the faculty there. This site is part of the faculty support materials. While not specifically print materials for students, this page provides quick printable outlines of strategies to employ in many situations. It is something like your classroom management plan where you supply various VERSIONS of the vision.
Of special interest is the page page on difficulty behaviors. Rather than have you try to find it (the link should be immediately above this box), I have used the next Trailfire path to take you to it.
See you there.

Puff, puff. we are here.
Please notice that the strategies presented are completely in line with our class strategies. These are versions of the basic strategy of inviting students to rejoin the group productively.
(You might want to print this one!)
One more trail and you'll be off and running on your own adventure or going back to your bookmarks to explore the sites visited.

Here is the last link on this journey. Please remember I've left out dozens of sites that are available. Perhaps very soon I can get another Trailfire tour.
This site is the venerable "freebie" venue. Many companies opt to advertise with learning materials. ARAMCO use to send comprehensive kits to learn about Saudi Arabia in the 50's and patterned a mild propaganda program that's 95% educational and 5% with the message "we are nice folks to do business with." In any case, the range is infinite. (Poloroid went through a phase where they gave away a camera, three boxes of film, and a teacher's guide to using images in traditional curriculum topics.)
Enjoy, explore, AND
DON'T FORGET THAT THE Bb SITE HAS A LONG FILE OF TEMPLATES (OVER A HUNDRED) OF DOCUMENTS FOR THE CLASSROOM. Download it now for use later.
