Langston Hughes writings earned him the title of the "Poet Laureate". With the influx of African Americans moving north due to the Great Migration, Harlem became the place to be for African Americans. Hughes described Harlem in the 1920's as being "like a magnet for the Negro intellectual, pulling him from everywhere." When did Hughes' literary career begin and how did he get the nickname "Poet Laureate"?
