This site is great for any teacher who is on a budget and does not have all the manipulatives available to use with students in the classroom. Virtual Manipulatives sorts by topics appropriate to 6-8 grade math.
While the biggest drawback to this site is its subscription fees, even the few videos available for free rank it among my top sites. Students thoroughly enjoy the cartoon videos that simply explain math concepts and provide a little entertainment. I have used these in my own classroom and my students are always asking for more.
Any teacher who struggles to make connections between math and the real world will benefit from using this site. Lesson available on this site are not all appropriate for 7th and 8th grade, but do provide cross-curricular lessons that explore the connections between math and social justice issues.
Video lessons on this site include topics that would be useful for remedial help in working with some students. Audio and visual instruction offers a change of pace from the regular teacher that might be helpful for a struggling student. Some information on this site may be too advanced for some junior high students, so be selective about the topics used.
