Ear infections are very common in infants and children. This happens because the Eustachian tubes of infants and children get clogged easily. This clogging causes fluid build up and pain in the ears. The result – the much dreaded Ear Infection.

Next to common cold, ear infections are the most commonly diagnosed childhood infections in the United States. Before a child reaches the age of three, more than 3 out of 4 children would have had an ear infection. They are a cause of most of the doctor visits.

Unlike other infections, ear infections are not contagious. However, the cold virus that leads to an ear infection is contagious. Often, if the ear infection occurs a week after the cold begins then it is no longer so. Care still should be taken to take prompt treatment.
