Job Corps is a no-cost education and vocational training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16 through 24 get a better job, make more money, and take control of their lives. Life at a Job Corps center can be an exciting and educational experience. A Job Corps center is a great place to complete an education, learn a marketable trade, make lifetime friends and graduate with a good job in hand. Each Job Corps center is unique. They all, however, feature campus-like settings with dormitories where students live. With the help of center staff and employers, the student learns, demonstrates and practices industry-related: Technical and academic skills, Interpersonal communication and problem solving skills; and, Social and personal management skills.
Job Corps provides youth with an opportunity to develop skills they need to succeed in a promising career. Job Corps is a federally funded program that costs nothing. Students in the program are paid a monthly allowance, and the longer they stay with the program, the higher their allowance becomes. Job Corps provides youth with the chance to learn a trade and get a high school diploma or GED, and offers youth help in getting a job.
