Braille Bryan Winchester

If there was ever any doubt that Braille is one of the best hip-hop artists of our generation, James Brown surely erased the notion when he expressed his admiration for the Oregon-based rapper. Combining poetic temperament and conceptual lyrics that tackle issues such as faith and spirituality, Braille intends on "helping people understand the things they can't see."

Before going by Braille, he went by many other random names that never stuck, and before that he was just Bryan Winchester - born and raised in Portland, OR. At age 13 he started making bedroom tapes, and from that moment he never turned back. The poetic nature of his lyrics and concepts intrigued listeners from the beginning.

Braille released 'Shades of Grey' in 2004 which led to the MC being named Lyricist of the Year and his record was named, Album of the Year by Sphereofhiphop. The record boasts an array of contributors from some of the Hip-Hop industry's luminaries such as: 9th Wonder (Jay Z) and Rob Swift ( X-Ecutioners).

In 2005 popular music magazine, URB included Braille as one of the Next 100 artists to watch out for. The underground success of his first record firmly placed Braille on the radar, winning the respect of the Hip-Hop fraternity worldwide.
