Switzerland have beaten Jamaica 2-0 in a friendly in the United States – their first match under new captain Alexander Frei. Thursday's win during a training camp in Florida ended a string of defeats for the Swiss team

The prolific striker hopes to complete his transfer from Rennes to Borussia Dortmund this summer. After netting six goals in the World Cup qualifiers, Frei is rapidly taking on the role Stephane Chapuisat played so successfully for Switzerland in the last decade. He has scored goals at an impressive average of better than a goal every two games for his country and has also been a regular scorer for Rennes since signing for the French side three years ago.

Not particularly big (1.79m) and not particularly quick, Alexander Frei hardly subscribes to the athletic norms of modern day strikers, but as Ajaccio’s David Terrier points out, when it comes to the 25-year-old striker, none of that really matters. “I couldn’t even say he’s a good player,” said the defender. “When you mark Frei, you pass a relatively easy evening. You could even say that it’s fun looking after him. But at the end of the match, you suddenly see that you’ve lost 2-0 and he scored them both.”
