Four of 10 financial planners who have received the CFP (Certified Financial Planner) designation are self employed with average incomes just above $62,000 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Until 2007, you can take the CFP exam if you have a Bachelor's degree in any field and at least three years' experience in financial planning.
