Melinda has been singing since the seventh grade and was a commercial music major at the Belmont University. Her Bible is her lucky charm. She says a little prayer before performing and has been known to cry whenever she would be sent to a higher round of the competition.

Simon Cowell quizzed Melinda on if she hated every single person that she sang backing vocals for. Simon said “Do you think fall off the stage, break your leg, and I’ll take your place?” Melinda responded “Oh goodness no, for me it’s fun and I’ve kind of always loved being in the background is my comfort zone, so that’s been my fun little place, and I can be there and they can do their thing.”
